Your Shih Tzu may become less sociable or withdraw from you. Because like a baby, he or she has very little control over elimination at this point in their lives. Rather, please clean up the mess and work on positive reinforcement by praising them profusely when they do the right thing.

If you do not show them recognition and praise when they exhibit good behavior. They’ll become stubborn as well as uncooperative.

Remember, it is difficult, if not impossible, to make a Shih Tzu do something it does not want to do. It is up to you to take these Shih Tzu house-training tips and reward your dog for participating and wanting to please you.

The Keys To Successful Shih Tzu House-Training Tips

Your Shih Tzu does not know how to tell you when he or she needs to go. For now, it is up to you to be attentive to her needs and signs of impending urination or defecation so you can take them outside in time.

Signs include sniffing the ground, pacing, circling, whining, crying, and acting anxious. You must act fast as soon as this behavior begins, or you will be too late!

Your Shih Tzu will always need to urinate immediately after waking up from a nap or eating a meal. Therefore, in these instances, take them directly outside without waiting for signs. Remember to lavish praise on them for their importance.

One of the keys to successful Shih Tzu house-training tips is to set up a regular schedule to let your dog out to do their business.

Ideally, a young, Shih Tzu puppy should be let outside every few hours. Of course, there will be times when you cannot be available to do this.

When you have to be away from the house for long periods of time, keep them restricted to a designated, confined area and cover the area’s floor with newspapers.

Your Shih Tzu will do her best to urinate and defecate on the papers. Now they have the right idea and are learning to control her elimination until they reach a given spot even if it isn’t yet the backyard.
