Breed experts believe that the Labrador Retriever or Lab is a Newfoundland product, mainly off of Greenland’s coast. Fishermen used this breed to retrieve and drag the ends of fishing nets into the shore. Also, they used retrievers for fetching games and held in high regard as a guide dog and sniffer dog detecting drugs and explosives. This breed is an outstanding water dog. It has a distinctive short, dense coat, hard to the touch, and a water-resistant undercoat.
